In order to explore the intricacies that influence and inform health reportage in India, this study examines the ethical challenges posed to health reporters using qualitative research methods. The research findings highlight the seen and unseen influences on health reporters and probe whether they are able to adhere to ethical practices in their work and, if not, what are the impediments. The study also illuminates how journalists deal with a range of issues in delivering their professional responsibility of reporting matters relating to health and allied themes. The issues include, among others ethical dilemmas, gender discrimination in and outside the newsroom, conflict of interest, risk of breaching privacy and confidentiality while reporting on sensitive subjects pertaining to the public, especially marginalised groups.

The Cold War, among other global geopolitical events, configured and reconfigured politics at multiple levels globally. Other mediatised events, such as the September 11 attacks, the subsequent 'War on Terror', Islamophobia and economic processes, such as India's economic liberalisation in the 1990s, created new global geopolitical alliances between regions. Effects of the shifting politics percolated to local and national amalgams of power, which influenced the gaze of the media. The paper, through Critical Discourse Analysis, unravels the geopolitical impact of the reportage on the Gaw Kadal Massacre and the Amarnath Land Row in Kashmir by The New York Times between 1990 and 2010. The study connects the political objectives of the ruling class to those of the media. Contradistinctions in the political nature of reportage that emerge from the text are linked to geopolitical processes, suggesting that important global events shaped the publication's gaze on the contested space.

For decades, the media has been a powerful agency in presenting Kashmir and shaping views in the national and the international imaginations. Recognising the complex multiplexity of the influences on the media that report on Kashmir, this work is an endeavour to examine the history of the media's relationship with the state through Archival Research. Documents accessed from Srinagar's Civil Secretariat's media section of the archives unravel the state's attempts to establish a relationship with the media in the militarised region since the early 1950s. This research sheds light on the nature of the association between the media and the state, as this understanding is crucial in understanding any conflict region. Hence, it becomes necessary to uncover the trajectory of power, as well as the nuances of histo-political nature of the liaison between the two entities that have contoured the narrative on this region of conflict.
